A Short History of the Brick House
In 1989, in response to the deaths of four women at the hands of their
domestic partners, a group of concerned residents, service providers
and town officials formed a coalition that sought to create a Montague
based organization that would serve the needs identified by residents.
This organization, the Brick House Community Resource Center, opened
its doors in 1990 to provide accessible services, respond to immediate
needs and foster community organizing efforts to address longer-term
solutions for change and community development.
Since its founding, the Brick House has served over 2500
residents with counseling programs, education, job training, employment
resources and opportunities for building community. After a decade of
providing a range of services to Montague residents, the Brick House
has concentrated its focus to address the underpinnings of social inequity
by supporting individual and community well being through economic development,
youth development, education and advocacy. |
